ISLAMABAD: The federal government approached President (ret’d) Javed Iqbal of the President of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Tuesday, asking him to launch an investigation into the problem of fake homes in Sindh province, ARY NEWS reported.

In a letter written to the president of the NAB by the Prime Minister’s adviser on accountability Shahzad Akbar, the latter asked him to probe the question because false homes were used to recruit thousands of civil servants in the province.

The Sindh government has been acting against the rules for several years, he said, because urban quota jobs were allocated using a false home. The letter said that under quota, these jobs were to be given to young people from Karachi, Hyderabad and Sukkur.

“5,500 jobs from Hyderabad and 30,500 from Karachi have been allocated on fake homes or while violating quota rules,” said the letter to the president of the NAB.

This illegal process has continued in the province since 2006 and workers in grades one to two have taken advantage of these illegal recruitments, said Shahzad Akber while demanding a thorough investigation into the matter.

It is relevant to mention here that the Muttahida Qaumi-Pakistan Movement (MQM-P) asked Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah on Monday to conduct a judicial investigation and a forensic audit of the provincial recruitment process in 2008 on false homes.

In a written letter from the vice-president of the MQM-P, Kanwar Naveed Jamil, to chief minister Sindh, the former asked the government of Sindh to dismiss all these employees named on false residences.

“Measures should also be taken against all those who facilitated the illegal process,” he demanded while calling on the NAB to take action against them. He said that those who have committed criminal negligence which has led to false home appointments should be named.

The party also decided to raise the issue with the federal government. “We will discuss this issue with Prime Minister Imran Khan,” he said.
