Former Indian goalkeeper Subrata Paul joined Hyderabad FC from Jamshedpur FC on Thursday for a two-year contract before the next Indian Super League season.

Paul, 33, has played 15 games with Jamshedpur FC in ISL 2019-20 and hopes to have an impact between publications for Hyderabad FC.

“The name Hyderabad will always be synonymous with the history of Indian football. Over the years, it has produced so many international stars and the club’s quest to rekindle the glory days has drawn me personally,” said Paul in an ISL press release.

“Unfortunately, during all these years, we didn’t have a city club, and now that we have one, it didn’t take long to decide to move to Hyderabad FC and be part of the glory and the history of Indian football. Hyderabad’s love and passion for football is folklore and I look forward to playing in front of these incredible supporters. “

Paul has played for India in 67 games but is no longer in the blueprint for the national team.

He said he looks forward to the next ISL season.

“Each season is new and we are looking forward to hosting a big show for Hyderabad. Coach Albert Roca is a seasoned activist and his contributions and training will surely help the club move forward. I can assure that we will make each team sweat more when they play us, ”he said.

“We will start from scratch and I have set myself big personal goals for myself and the club. Reviving the glory days of the city’s football culture is one of the goals, as is establishing Hyderabad FC as one of the best football clubs in the country, “added Paul.

One of the most experienced goalkeepers in the league, who has been in six ISL seasons, Paul will fight for a place in the Hyderabad Starting XI with Laxmikant Kattimani, who recently signed a contract extension of one year with the club.

Hyderabad head coach Albert Roca said: “Subrata is one of the most experienced players in ISL and has played at the highest level in the country for over a decade.

“He is among the best goalkeepers in the country and there is no doubt that he will bring quality to our team with his leadership, which will help many of the young people on our team.” It has been an integral part of national team training for many years, so we are very happy to have it on board. “

Paul is one of the few Indian players to have a European pedigree, having had a brief stint at the Danish club Vestsjaelland. Member of the Mumbai City FC team for the first two editions of ISL, he joined NorthEast United FC in 2016 before spending the last three campaigns with Jamshedpur.

His six seasons in ISL have seen him make 85 appearances for three different clubs. During this time, he kept 26 clean sheets and made 250 stops. He received the ISL 2017-18 Golden Glove Award after keeping seven clean sheets in 18 matches.

An Arjuna award winner, Paul has also had success with the Indian football team. He was part of the Indian title winning teams that won the 2008 AFC Challenge Cup, the 2015 SAFF Championship as well as the Nehru Cup triumphs in 2012 and 2009.

He also became the only goalkeeper to win the Indian Football Federation’s (AIFF) player of the year award in 2009.
