- Timo Werner looks set to join Chelsea at the end of the season and Steve Nicol has admitted that his former Liverpool club could pay the price.

Liverpool “slipped” by missing Chelsea to RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner, according to Reds chief Steve Nicol.
Chelsea allegedly triggered Werner’s release clause, estimated at £ 54 million (60 million euros), to win the race when he signed.
Liverpool have long been regarded as the favorite to sign the German international, who has scored 31 goals this season, but have reportedly delayed an approach and their Premier League rivals have rushed.
Nicol, who won nine major honors during his stay at Anfield, believes his former club could pay the price because he needs competition for Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.
“I think it is [a mistake], Yes. Whatever your quality, at least you have to make sure you stay where you are, “he told ESPN.

“It means you need to compete for places. Without a doubt, Werner would have kept the top three – as tall as they were and were – on their toes.
“The top three from Liverpool can now breathe a little easier. I think Liverpool slipped here.”
Werner described Jurgen Klopp as “the best coach in the world” in February and admitted that his style of play would suit Liverpool well, but he appears to be on his way to Stamford Bridge when the transfer window opens.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if Werner had anything to do with it,” added Nicol.
“In the end, if you want to go somewhere, you can get there. It seems to me that Werner has changed his mind.”
