The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, proposed on Wednesday that the EU set the goal of lowering greenhouse fuel emissions “by at least 55%” by 2030 as an intermediate level for attaining local weather neutrality by the center of the century.

This was introduced within the State of the Union deal with that happened on the European Parliament headquarters in Brussels. “I recognize that this increase is too much for some and not enough for others. However, our impact analysis shows that our economy and our industry can achieve it,” defended the German.

Von der Leyen emphasised that by attaining this goal the EU is “firmly” heading in the right direction to satisfy its obligations beneath the Paris Agreement and to scale back pollutant emissions as a lot as potential by 2050. “For us this is an ambitious and achievable goal,” repeated.
