Jadeveon Clowney would look great in silver and black, wouldn’t it?

the Las Vegas Raiders are looking to make noise in AFC West this year and they can do a lot by signing Jadeveon Clowney.

Before disappearing in the home stretch, the Argent and Noir looked like a playoff team in their last season at Oakland. Now that they have left California for Nevada, the Raiders must make a splash by signing one of the last renowned free agents.

Clowney was the former No. 1 coach of the University of South Carolina by the Houston Texans in 2014. He spent his first five NFL seasons on the Gulf Coast, becoming a three-time Pro Bowler for the Texas AFC franchise. Clowney spent last season in relative darkness in the Pacific Northwest with the Seattle Seahawks. Could he bounce back with the Raiders in 2020?

The Raiders are in a group of three teams in AFC West with the Denver Broncos and Los Angeles Chargers, looking up at defending Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl champion and wondering where they fit into the new AFC now that Tom Brady has taken his talents to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Any AFC West team can participate in the playoffs this year, but will it be the Raiders?

Does Jadeveon Clowney Make Raiders A Playoff Team?

With an expanded playoff field in both conferences, a mid-range team like the Raiders can take advantage of the new playoff situation by really refining their identity. What are the Raiders doing well under head coach Jon Gruden? They run the ball effectively with Josh Jacobs and they get past the quarterback with Maxx Crosby and Clelin Ferrell. You can win with this.

While Jacobs should be the bell tower in Las Vegas for the foreseeable future, you can never have too many good pass rushers. Although Clowney will never be a 10-bag guy like his classmate Khalil Mack for the Silver and Black a few years ago, he can come in and make the defensive line even more threatening for the Raiders in the running.

By putting pressure on young quarterbacks like Drew Lock and rookie Justin Herbert, the Raiders can assert their dominance and claim second place for themselves in the difficult AFC West. Second place isn’t usually a boast, but when you look to Kansas City, you take what you can get. Second place probably means a playoff spot.

Clowney and his representation played the long game in his free agency. While the Cleveland Browns seemed to be the favorite to land him, it doesn’t seem like it’s headed for northeast Ohio, now no matter how much money the Browns were willing to pay him. Nor does Clowney appear to be preparing for another year in the Pacific Northwest with the Seahawks.

Adding Clowney to what is already a Las Vegas pass rush will only serve the Raiders as the season progresses. While the quarterback situation between incumbent Derek Carr and newcomer Marcus Mariota will eventually be resolved, the Raiders will make the playoffs if they can play football and lead the opposing quarterback through the grass several times.

What are you waiting for, Raiders? Go get Clowney and become a playoff team this season!
