Rugby Australia will announce the first phase of a wholesale restructuring this week after submitting its 2019 financial report which tentatively reported a loss of $ 9.4 million.
Acting CEO Rob Clarke tasked to reshape besieged organization amid plans for national return of Super Rugby in July and attempt to reach broadcast deal beyond this year .
Clarke, who intervened following the resignation of former CEO Raelene Castle in April, said he approved the company’s 2019 financial accounts – in the afternoon of the deadline about two months after having tentatively revealed the problematic situation of the code – was a box checked.
“The audited and signed accounts have been submitted today, and our 2019 annual report will be released in the coming days,” said Clarke.
“This week we will also announce the first phase of an organizational restructuring of the Rugby Australia business, which we are in the process of completing.”
Rugby Australia has resigned from more than 100 employees to cope with the financial losses linked to the coronavirus pandemic, while Castle withdrew as criticism from the administration rose.
The damage has been estimated at $ 120 million if no other match was possible this season, a scenario which now seems unlikely with a series of tests against New Zealand also in preparation for the end of this year.
Australian Super Rugby clubs have suffered similar clashes, while the country’s rugby sevens Olympic programs are expected to be decentralized as part of the restructuring.
A five-team competition featuring the Western Force, called Super Rugby AU, is scheduled to start on July 3.
